RECYCLED POLYESTER

We encourage our partner brands to use recycled polyester. Using recycled polyester lessens our partner brands’ dependence on petroleum as a source of raw materials, utilizes waste, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing. In addition, using recycled polyester diverts plastic waste from landfills and the ocean.

ORGANIC COTTON

We encourage our partner brands to use organic cotton. Organic cotton is grown without synthetic fertilizers, synthetic pesticides, and without genetically modified seeds. As a result, organic cotton has the potential to reduce our partner brands’ water impact, as well as promoting more sustainable farming techniques that do not strip the soil of vital nutrients.

HEMP

We encourage our partner brands to use hemp. When compared to other conventional fibers, hemp is naturally pest resistant and requires little to no fertilizers, as well as using less water and lower land use intensity.

RECYCLED NYLON

We encourage our partner brands to use recycled nylon. Using recycled nylon lessens our partner brands’ dependence on petroleum as a source of raw materials, utilizes waste, and reduces greenhouse gas emissions from manufacturing. In addition, using recycled nylon opens the pathway for circularity, in order to reduce waste.

REUSABLE ACCESSORIES

Reusable accessories can replace single-use plastics like plastic water bottles and to-go containers. Using reusable accessories reduces our dependence on petroleum as a source for single-use plastics. This also helps keep single-use plastics out of the landfill and out of our oceans. In addition, using reusable accessories helps reduce microplastic pollution, which ends up in our waterways and can be harmful to our health.

VINTAGE AND PRE-LOVED CLOTHING

Trends come and go, Restored by Tillys went hunting and found some gold. Since the launch of Restored in 2021, Tillys has extended the life of over 8,000 garments, which may have otherwise ended up in landfills. Whether pre-loved or re-worked, we are aiming to reduce our impact on the environment while bringing back nostalgia vibes.

Better Cotton Initiative

Tillys is a proud member for the Better Cotton Initiative!

The Better Cotton Initiative makes global cotton production better for the people who produce it, better for the environment it grows in, and better for the sector’s future, by developing Better Cotton as a sustainable mainstream commodity. The Better Cotton Initiative trains farmers to use water efficiently, care for soil health and natural habitats, reduce use of the most harmful chemicals and respect workers’ rights and wellbeing. By choosing cotton products from Tillys, you’re supporting responsible cotton production through the Better Cotton Initiative.

We are committed to sourcing 50% of our cotton for our private label brands as Better Cotton by 2026.

*Better Cotton is sourced via a system of Mass Balance and is not physically traceable to end products.

See bettercotton.org/massbalance for details.
